Angry no decon

Does anyone have any idea's on how to get rid of mice without decon "have pets around" I live in the country, I can here them in the walls, they already chewed through one water line"pex" coming into the house, I tried live traps and caght a few, but can't catch them quick enough. Is there any safe materials to use that will kill mice and not harm dogs or cats.or is there any sprays that would work. thanks

The only product I have ever seen that I would use was Spectracide Safe Kill. It was not second generation deadly, so if your dog, cat or a hawk got a mouse that had eaten the product, it wouldn't be lethal. It was systemic rather than a poison and hindered the rat's ability to take on water, he dehydrates and dies. His body doesn't even emit odors since it contains little water.

NOW, for the kicker. Spectracide in their infinite wisdom decided to pull it from the market due to lagging sales. They did this rather than pushing it over their DCon products which are basically poison.

I have written them, and have even tried to find old stock on line to no avail. You may be luckier.

I've had good results using snap traps in the house. Maybe you are feeding your cats to good

I think that whatever chewed through your water line is rat/squirrel sized. No doubt that mice are present also, but seriously consider that there are also larger rodents present.

Secure all pet food and clean up spillage. Rats will live well on pet food and can avoid cats and dogs.

There are multiple catch mouse traps available. Search for “tin cats”. I prefer the kind that do not need to be wound up but both kinds work.

The greatest danger to pets would be from them eating the rodenticide as opposed to secondary poisoning from eating a rodent. That danger is minimal at best. Be aware that secondary poisoning is a danger to birds of prey though.

ok thanks, I'll try to find spectracide and use more traps, and stop feeding the cat 'only kidding " maybe just cut back, Maybe i'll try decon dogs and cats won't be able to get at it, I have brick around bottom of house but the mice are digging holes underneath to the crawl space and chewing around where the water pipes come up through the floor, I was just worried if the mice went out in the yard and got eaten by something that it might kill them also. thanks again

I prefer the bait blocks as opposed to the pellets, for what it’s worth. Sometimes the rodents will stash the pellets, not always eating them.

Let's assume your efforts are perfect and all of the current visitors are eliminated, what then? Access points and habitat that bring them to your home all need to be located and eliminated. As that is not always possible, then look for an artificial habitat you can create well away from the house, fully equipped with traps or other. Point being, catch new arrivals before they get too close.
