Need help identifying...

Hey guys,

I've intended to register for some time for getting help on projects. I hate to make my first post so... negative.

I came home today to find these buggers running around in my sink, maybe about 15 to 20. I fear I know already what they are, can anyone confirm?

Sorry for the poor photo but only my cell phone owuld capture them, camera did not want to cooperate. I enhanced to color a bit to bring out detail against the background, they are paler in reality.

Thanks a lot in advance,

Welcome to the best DIY forum on the internet.
They are bugs! Sorry I can't be more definitive but I wanted you to know that you WILL get a response. We have some very intelligent people on the forum, including a professional exterminator, but sometimes it takes a day or two to get the proper answer. So hang on, help is coming.

Thanks for your reply, I wish my photo could have been better! I have managed to two of these into a resealable bag and frozen, and will see if I can somehow get them identified locally as well. That will take a few days, and I was hoping just to get some light shed on this.

A little more info, I thought would be appropriate. They are about an eight of an inch long. They are beige-ish in color with a darker spot as seen above. The rear section is flattened somewhat.

Since I'm from the area I tried to come up with something. It looks to be in the beetle family with the six legs. The antennae are to short for a c*ockroach.

You don't realize how many bugs there are until you start looking at pictures.

Thank you Pete,

To be honest, from the start I kind of freaked thinking termites, as they looked similar to some photos I had found online in the past - and my poor ability to get a good photo or good look at them. I had the home treated, but I never take anything as foolproof or certain, so, I figured I'd try to find out from people who knew better.

Search for “psocid” images. I think thats what it is. Definitely take your specimens to a county extension agent for an objective ID and info.

Keep us posted.
