Roach infestation question
So 5 days ago at 1:30 AM, a roach was crawling on my ceiling and fell onto my bed. The lights were on in my room but off in the rest of the house. It scared the crap out of me but I ended up being able to kill it. I live in north Georgia, about 45 minutes northeast of Atlanta, and this thing was about 1.8 inches long and pretty much black in color, so I'm thinking either oriental, smokey brown or american cockroach. I haven't seen any roaches since then but I have been sleeping with the lights on and have been under a great deal of anxiety over the possibility of an infestation and them crawling on me in my sleep. I live in a subdivision with each house being around 300 feet apart from each other wall to wall and we keep our house fairly clean. I have treated the whole perimeter of my house with Ortho insecticide. What is the possibility of an infestation in the walls?

A good way to monitor for the larger species of roaches is to place glue traps in various locations along interior perimeter, against the walls. I like the larger glue traps that are marketed for rodents as they work better for the big guys.
When you say you treated perimeter, I’m assuming you meant interior perimeter? Have you found dead roaches? The big guys are quite susceptible to insecticides and will die out in the open.
In your part of the country the roaches will live quite well outdoors so a periodical exterior treatment would be helpful too. Hopefully this one roach was simply an invader from the outdoors. Are your houses really 300’ apart or did you mean 30’?

When I lived in fla I would take whatever was leftover of the bug spray I had mixed up in the pump up garden sprayer and spray around the windows/doors on the exterior .... also any other areas that you suspect might be an interior access for them.
