What kind of flies/gnats do I have In my house?

I have all these small black flies/gnats that are a little bigger than fruit flies. I canít figure out where they are coming from. Mainly in the kitchen, pantry and bathroom. Anyone have an idea what it may be?

I don't know what they are. Note that their wings fold overtop of each other as opposed to crossing over each other or angling away from the body. That will be a key characteristic in ID'ing them. Also, the stipes or lack of on the top of the body though I can't see them.

Is the bathroom close to the kitchen and pantry?

Can you catch several specimens, can be dead but not mutilated, and take them to the lockal county agricultural extension agent? I've used them at times. They are a good source of objective info and are familiar with insects that are in their locality. Here in PA it would be the Penn State agricultural extension office; not sure about your state but usually it's a university. Keep us posted.

Thanks for replying. They were in my laundry room and kitchen but are now mainly just in the kitchen.
