I keep finding these empty shells - pics included

I keep cleaning up these very small empty hard shells in my basement. They seem to be from one area and show up quite a bit. What exactly am I dealing with here? Thanks!

They look like seed pods that a mouse or squirrel collected and is bringing out to eat as needed.

Place some test baits of different varieties in that same area to see if the critter will take them and what kind he likes. Then decide on a trap.

I agree, those are leftover nuts from a rodent. Now the task is to identify and remove the rodent. I'd also be looking for their access point - where they got in from outside.

I too think that it is from a rodent eating seeds. Check any bird seed storage, feeders, etc to see if there is activity present.

Look for rodent droppings nearby, overhead, etc.

Thank you all, it was a rodent. We got rid of a couple, now I need to find out where they're coming in from. Thanks again for your help!
