Ants on a door

This is mainly a curiosity question, but maybe it means something. This morning I opened my front door, and there's three large ants sitting on the storm door (outside), side by side. As you can see by the pic, they're high up. I can't say I've ever seen this before. Does it mean anything, other than they're posing for a pic?

look like flying ants. I believe they are just out looking for mates!

Wasps and ants have similar shaped bodies with a big difference being the antennae shape. Ants have a bent antennae and I don't see a bend in these. Wasps can have curled or straight antennae. I found this image as an example of the antennae shape, not necessarily as a species ID. The fact that they were high up and together has me leaning towards wasps. There are lots of small wasps, especially the parasitic species. Search "ant antennae" and wasp antennae" images.

It’s funny you mention wasps because when I showed my son the pic, he immediately thought they were bees.
I wiped them off the door with a paper towel. Lucky I didn’t get stung.
Probably should have left them be, but didn’t want them getting in the house.

The smaller, parasitic wasps don't/can't sting humans. You can ignore them safely.
