What kind of ant is this?

A bunch of these tiny ants will occasionally show up in my kitchen, and I wanted to identify them to treat with pest spray.

I also want to treat for BR/wolf spiders... I spray about once or twice a year, and in the past I've used Lambdastar 9.7 CS, Cyzmic CS, and Onslaught Fastcap. I figure any of those will still work fine, but open to any input.

I suspect odorous house ant. Do some researching and see what you think. In any case, the smaller species of ants are best treated with baits. I always liked the gel baits that come in the plastic syringes. I would treat multiple spots in the kitchen; don't spray in the kitchen as the sprays you've described are repellent. They can work as a preventative, but once you have an ant colony, they could very well scatter them while killing some foragers. Baiting requires patience as they really do take it back to the colony for distribution. The baits work slowly; if they worked quickly, then the colony wouldn't get fed.

The insecticides that you are using for spiders are a good choice; would be my choice also. Consider using a "fipronil" based insecticide on the perimeter before you do the annual spider spraying, as fipronil is non-repellent and very good for ants. Fipronil doesn't work well on spiders as a residual, unfortunately. It also works slowly, they don't know that it's there, and will walk/work in it without hesitation. Use a clean sprayer so no residue from others insecticides are present. After about a month, go ahead and do the spider treatment.

PAbugman, yes after reading some more, I think they are probably odorous or pavement, but probably odorous.

Great info, many thanks!
