Our basement is freezing!!!
#1
All,
Our basement gets down to about 62 degrees
when the thermostat is set to 72. We have
a fireplace down there which we never use.
What is a good way to insulate the fireplace??
Any help or suggestions would be greatly
appreciated.
Thanks,
Kevin

Hello: Kevin Davis
Don't insulate or close off the fireplace.
If you use this area, use the fireplace chimmney for the flu and hang a thru the wall vent gas <if there is gas already there or have your plummer bring a gas line there> furnace.
These types of furnaces actually hang on a wall. There flues go thru the wall directly behind them. They are about 4 feet wide and 3 feet high and provide excellent heating for one or two opened and adjoining rooms.
In your case, hang the furnace just above the fireplace and maintain the fireplaces opening for a fire inside the fire place when needed. Install fireplace glass doors and your set. Quick, inexpensively and decorative.
Check with your local heating agents for the correct BTU furnace size.
Good Luck.
