1st: House built in '55, there are no vapor barriers. 2nd: There are a couple room's where the ceiling is partially below the attic areas, how can I add insulation or replace (old bat's are barely 3" thick) and get it next to the ceiling and have a vapor barrier???

Thanks

Hi:Falcon2dr

First off, an attic is not exposed to the outside like an exterior wall. The roof is exposed to the outside.

Therefore, if you have an attic, the insulation in between the rafters does not need a vapor barrier. Hence you can use blowen in insulation in place of bats.

If you need insulation in the walls that are outside walls, a vapor barrier will need to be installed.

There are several different types of wall insulation materials and various methods of installing each type. I suggest you check the archives in this forum for more information.

Good Luck.
