Homemade Garage Door Insulation Inserts

Homemade Garage Door Insulation Inserts
On my typical 10 yr old, metal, raised panel garage door, I cut and inserted 2" thick blue foam board for insulation on the inside, years ago. (An insulation kit costs $50 or more). They perform well but look unattractive.
I'd like to cover them w/ white paint or maybe cover them w/ some thin, durable plastic. If I painted them, any particular type of paint to use? I know some glues eat thru some foams, so maybe paint would do the same or not adhere?
Or any ideas on a plastic material to use? So far, I have only thought of contact paper (too thin) or plastic skin material used inside commercial, walk-in freezers (too thick or $$).
Thanks
