garage insulation

Considering adding wall, ceiling and garage door insulation to an unheated garage in order to reduce temperature during hot Arizona summers. Any risk that added insulation will keep hot air in and actually increase temperature? Note that there is a gas water heater in garage, so we have the safety ventilation cut outs in wall that will remain intact. Thanks in advance.

No there is no risk that insulation would make the garage warmer in the summer. The insulation will make the garage cooler. You should check with your local building inspector. In most States, if not all of them require insulation being covered with sheet rock in garages.
