New Construction, Insulating exterior walls
I am planning to insulate my exterior walls (plywood sheathing) with foam board insulation. My questions are:
1) When installing my new windows, do they get installed before or after the foam insulation? Would I install my windows over my foam insulation?
2) If I do install my windows over my foam insulation my window jamb is now going to be short to my inside wall. How would I compensate for the shoirt jamb?
Thanks

It could depend on what sort of exterior you will have. If you are going to have a brick veneer, you'll need to make sure the windows are installed with a setback from the brick frieze that will allow the edges to be covered. This is usually accomplished by nailing a 1x4 or sometimes a 2x4 to the outside of the rough opening. Some install this over foil-faced foam sheathing. I don't like to do it that way because it seems too flimsy. I prefer to install something solid that is the same thickness as the foam and then nail my 1x4 over that. If you're planning on putting siding over the foam, you might want to instead consider going with a higher R value insulation between the studs (or 2x6 exterior walls). I personally don't like to install siding over foam as it tends to get a little wavy whereas installing it directly over OSB sheathing gives a nice flat finished appearance. Just my 2 cents worth.
