HELP with attic Insulation

I am hoping someone can help. If I am installing insulation in an attic (cape cod, gabled roof), do I need to leave space between teh insulation and the roof for air flow and moisture prevention? And, what types of ventilation do I need. If tehre is no space between the insulaiton and the roof, is there a way to properly do the job?
thanks

Attic ventilation serves 2 purposes. It helps get rid of moisture that leaks through the ceiling during winter - this protects against rot, mold and soggy (ineffective) insulation. It also helps get rid of hot air produced by the sun beating down on the roof during summer which keeps the living space cooler.

There is always a way to do the job properly but I think this is the kind of problem you should be discussing with a local professional
