Garage Insulation

Just a quick question....

I live in Alberta Canada (Cold winters) and I am preparing to drywall my unheated attached garage. The walls are on 16" and the ceiling is 23". Can anyone suggest what what R value I should place in the wall studs and what R value insulation I should place in the ceiling?

Thanks

You dont say what the walls are 2x4 or 2x6?? If 2X4 go with the R-13, If 2 X 6 go for R-19. In the ceiling if batts go for the R-30 if you can blow it in go for R-40. Make sure that the overhang vents get the air up in the attic and out the roof vents. There are tubes like that made for this.If paper batts, paper to the room side. All batts come in 15" and 23". Even with paper on the batts we still put a 2 mil poly over all the insulation on the room side before we put the drywall up ED

Sorry....

Garage studs are all on 2X4 studs as part of the building code up here. Thanks for your help.

Insulation

We have done some homes down here with 2x6 studs in out side walls to get the higher R-19 insulation in them. It helps a lot. ED
