basement insulation

What kind of insulation should I use for my basement walls? I'm planning to tear down old paneling and furring strips and frame the walls.

R-values are based upon your local environment, but generally R-13 or R-19 depending upon wall depth. Faced or unfaced batts in R-13 for 2x4, R-19 for 2x6 typically are used. A faced batt where there is no vapor barrier otherwise would be stapled to the studs.

Hope this helps.
