Insulating ductwork

Insulating ductwork
I am thinking about insulating my duct-work in my basement for added energy conservation. I have all sheet metal work throughout. I have two questions:
1) What is the best and safest product to use? I have seen fiber glass with foil backing, self adhesive foild with weather strip material behind the foil and finally I have seen bubble wrap sandwiched between to layers of foil. So many choices on materials I don't know which to choose.
2) How much energy would I realy conserve. Is it realy worth doing at all?

Hello: Jcabello
I found your question in a topic which is not as likely to provide you with the information requested. Within this topic, you are far more likely to obtain the answers, since the question pertains to insulation.
In my opinion, saving energy in any tiny amount is always cost effective in the long term. Insulating sheet metal ducting is a good idea, does save money and is worth the intial cost of materials.
Well worth the time & labor spent installing it too. Providing the correct material is used and installed properly. And to which the answers on how to best accomplish the task can be provided by the diy's professionals on this project task.
You might want to read several of the existing questions already asked and replied to in this forum topic on the subject of your question. Doing so will also provide you with plenty of information provided by the experts...

Dont see why
First Id ask do you heat the basement at all. If you insulate the duct then how about the floors and all down there. We look at it as any heat loss down there will go up to the floors and help warm them. What about the water pipes there . If the duct is not out side or like in an atic we dont insulate it at all. I would think more in insulation in all the out side walls of this basement first. Now that would help a lot. ED
