Insulate block

What is thew best way to insulate foundation block. The contractors started with 12" block then went to 8" block. There is an opening in the 12" block that I can put sonething in but I don't know what. I"m trying to seal off that portion of block to slow down the hunidity coming up from the foundation. When I look down the hole in the 12" block I can see mud and the block looks damp below the floor line. Any ideas....??GK

Wink

Id try a shop vac and suck out all I can from down there. then make a soup mix sand and cement and pour it down in there in all the holes. Then hang a 6 mil poly over the whole wall.

I'm going to use the 6mill poly for sure and Dry-Loc as needed. The sand cement mix is possible but is there not some kind of filler that can be bought somewhere made out of small styrofoam balls or something. I know I saw something somewhere but can't remember. You can buy it in huge bags that weight about 10 pounds the size of a truck bed. And the balls are the size of buckshot and can be poured down the block as a insulator and or filler.... Thanks for the response Ed....

Thumbs down

Yes there is they use it all the time for like floors and such. To kill sound in the condos. Put it right in the cement. BUT you dont want it down there you want to help seal out any water down in the basement there and make it stronger.
