Adding attic insulation

Our home is 33 years old and has blown in fiberglass insulation. Our heating bills are not outragous but we would like to add insulation (also to help against ice jams) We have an estimate for fiberglass with baffles, and one for cellutite with baffles plus venting 2 fans outside instead of in attic. There is a $500 difference in price, this is not a problem as we want to do the right thing. Can cellutite be added over fiberglass or should we add fiberglass?

Cellulose over fiberglass

Although cellulose insulation’s R-value of roughly 3.7 per inch is similar to high-density fiberglass batts, because it is blown in it seals cavity spaces and reduces air filtration. Cellulose settles over time and requires it to be installed again at its kpredicted density settling rate to maintain R-value. Some manufacturers have products that claim they have reduced settling. Cellulose can be installed over fiberglass. Check for the required R-value in your area.
