insulate space between floors?

I have a house that at one time was a ranch and had a 2nd story added. I recently opened the floor in the bathroom next to the wall to work on pipes and noticed a cold draft in the joist space between the first and 2nd floor. Should I have loose insulation blown in here? Between other joists I did not notice a draft.
thx, Don

Chances are the draft is coming from the chase in which your main drain/vent stack is. The most obvious place to look is in your attic. Look for the vent stack that comes up from your attic floor through your roof. Go to it and pull back the insulation in the attic floor away. If there is a large gap between the attic floor and the vent stack, seal the gap. I like using plastic food shopping bags. stuff them with insulation and stuff the bag in the gap. Then put the insulation back over and around the stack.
