Insulating around a dryer exhaust duct
I'm insulating my basement with fibreglass batts and 6 mil poly. My clothes dryer exhausts through a 4" metal duct that goes through a window space that's been closed up with plywood. Is it fire-safe to put the batts right around the duct, or should I first frame it with a collar made of 2x4 scraps? Thanks

This duct must be wrapped with insulation. If there is an air space between the insulation and the duct, during cold temepratures, condensation will form on the duct since the air inside the duct is warm moist air.
The best way to do this is to buy an insulating sleeve which has insulation inside a plastic bag...it just slides right over top of the pipe.
