Attic insulation

I have an older house in Michigan that had no insulation. My son and I blew in insulation under the floor of the attic a few years back. I would like to add more insulation. Should I add it to the rafters or put it on top of the floor in the attic? I do not plan to use the attic for any thing in the near future.

Additional blown in insulation or unfaced batt insulation can be installed over old. If there is an attic floor, this will have to be removed. Compression of insulation reduces insulative qualities. It is not recommended to insulate between attic rafters. Seal all gaps where heat can escape from the heated living space into attic area.
