Attic Insulation

I currently have R-25 batt insulation in my attic. I believe I should have R-49. Will I be saving drastically in heat and electric bills by increasing my insulation to R-49?

"I believe I should have R-49." What's the minimum recommended by building codes for your area? Increasing insulation does save on energy bills, but there is a point of diminishing returns.

Several websites have R-value calculators to calculate needed R-value for your area. Go to www.owenscorning.com and click Tools & Resources and then the DOE R-value recommendations if this link does not work: http://www.owenscorning.com/around/insulation/rvalue.asp
