Insulating existing ceiling

I want to insulate my basement ceiling (which is existing). There is a section at the front of the house that is not finished and I can see straight through to the middle of the basement. If I was to "slide" insulation down to the middle and insulate the flooring in my living room, would that suffice? Would that properly insulate the area or would I have to rip everything out?

You can slide the insulation in but it might be better to have it blown in.
