Is it necessary to remove old insulation

My attic has the original insulation in the attic. It is blown in, and the house is approximately 25 yrs old. The insulation is pretty compressed and does not cover all of the corners in the attic. Should i remove the old insulation before installing new, or just install new on top of the old. I realize the difference in the price and amount of work involved.

I would recommend just insulating over the old insulation unless your intention in the future is to do some work with the ceiling below.
