Insulating around fireplace

I am remodeling my early 80's family room and removed the "facia" brick from the fireplace. It is verry drafty around the outer perimiter of the brick fireplace. Can I use the can(spray) insulation to fill these gaps or is this a fire hazzard?

If it's a smaller gap and no real recess then I'd just use a proper caulking for that.

If there is enough of a recess in behind for the foam then go for it or pack it with insulation, but I'd still make sure to seal it all with proper caulking. You might want to use a minimal expanding type of foam for this if you do that.
