Insulating propane furnace?

Our vented crawlspace is quite a bit warmer than I would have expected. The propane furnace located there obviously heats the crawlspace, which is of course wasted energy.

The furnace and blower assembly together with the usual rectangular ducts are about ten feet long before they feed into round ducts. The rectangular ducts are not insulated; the round ones are. The furnace housing is warm to the touch.

Are there approved ways of insulating the furnace and rectangular ducts? A quick web search didn't really turn up anything, so I have a hunch that it might be against code.

Any thoughts? Thanks! MM

Do not insulate the furnace. You can insulate the duct.
