I need to insulate the band joist and floor joist in my basement.

Is spray foam superior to fiberglass for this purpose? I talked with a basement systems person and one of the products they offer is spray foam insulation. He said that it's superior in just about every way.

I hear that it's more expensive, but I don't know whether this is really worth exploring. Any ever use spray foam for insulating the basement band joist?

You need to perform two things, air seal every seam and insulate. The sealing can be accomplished with caulking or can foam, then any type of insulation can be added.

Spray foam will seal and insulate all at once, but at a price and it can block any visual inspection for termites if you are in a problem area. Inspectors need to be able to see the wood.

Make sure you also seal the rim joist to the foundation walls. Here is a link on air sealing everywhere, it opens slow but it is good: http://www.efficiencyvermont.com/ste...ide_062507.pdf
