I have a neighbor retrofitting an old house in a cold climate with polyiso insulation. He ripped off the stucco leaving the sheathing boards and then on instruction from the building supply store, put on housewrap followed by foil covered polyiso. It seems to me the houswrap is redundant given the foil polyiso is a vapour and air barrier since it is taped at the seams. Not a big deal I suppose, but seems to me an unnecessary expense. Am I correct or am I missing something?

Hi All - Looking for advice on how to "fix" a cold bedroom problem. 1958 single story home with basement on Long Island. The bedroom is about 12 ft by 12 ft. The basement insulation is the same under this room as the master, and no problems with the master. The cold bedroom is in the back of the house, the master is in the front. I believe the main reason for the problem is the sun comes across the front of the house where there are a decent number of windows therefore heating the house. We keep the cold bedroom door closed (it's a baby's room and we keep pets out), and the sun never really directly hits the cold bedroom. I'm finding my problem exists in the fall and spring - when the heat isn't even running, as well as when the heat is running in the winter. I thought about simply putting an air passage way above the bedroom door to allow more air to flow in/out, but not sure if this wil work. Will this work, or are there any other ideas for easy fixes without spending a lot of money/time? - Mike
