Vent Up or Out the Side?

I want to install a kitchen range hood. I don't know if I should vent it out the side or up through the attic to outside?

The range hood will be installed against an outside wall so side venting only requires one quick 4" core taken out of the brick siding.

But is it a bad idea?

Through the wall is fine. Going through the roof always leave more opportunity for a leak. In your case it is more work than it needs to be.
