Best Spray Foam to Use

I have two areas in my home that I plan to get spray-foamed. The first is my detached garage that I want to make warm enough to do winter projects in with a little heat. I've been offered a good deal on some of the hard foam spray on insulation. Is this the best type to use for this application, or would it be better to use the soft foam? A soft foam installer told me to use the soft as the other can trap moisture behind, but that shouldn't be a problem as the roof and siding are new. I am also doing my attic and I plan on using the soft foam as I live on a busy street and I hear the soft foam is better for noise insulation. Am I correct in my assumptions?

The terms you are looking for a open (soft) and closed (hard) cell foams.

There was a thread recently with a link to an article touting open as the best choice and a link within that article to another touting closed cell as the best choice.

I'm a closed cell fan myself.
