Insulation Installed: Ceiling Now Damp

Ex husband installed insulation on attic ceiling.then drywall over that for a finished room.Does this need to be removed??attic ceiling is damp behind the insulation. To my knowledge the attic ceiling should not be insulated just the floor. What is the right answer?

Ceilings can be insulated, but there are correct methods that prevent moisture accumulation. It sounds like he didn't follow them.

It is not going to work as is, so your choices are to remove it as stated or figure out what he did wrong. We would need to know how it is vented, what type of insulation was used, and if any any vapor barrier or air barrier was used. Chances are slim it can be saved.

The other issue would be the room itself. Converting an attic space to living space requires some consideration for egress, and proper support below. Proper permitting and following codes is important.

I agree with Bud, not allowing an air space between the insulation and the roof decking was a major problem. Just cramming insulation up there and covering over is definitely wrong. Do you know what size rafters you have up there?
