Need to seal edges and seams of 40mil crawlspace vapor barrier. Read more: http
Hey all,
I just recently bought a house with a dirt crawlspace, which had been encapsulated using 40mil shower pan liner (holy expensive batman): Oatey 60 in. x 72 in. PVC Shower Pan Liner Kit-41620 at The Home Depot
The problem is....they didn't seal any of the edges connecting to the concrete block walls, and some of the seams are poorly sealed, if they are at all!
There are a couple raised platforms, a water heater sitting on bricks (not sure how to seal this out) and some rough/uneven areas where it connects to the blocks (including some where the dirt is maybe 1/2" from the top of the block)
The sheets are mechanically bolted to the wall, so removing it to put double sided tape behind sheeting to connect it to the wall may not be possible in all areas. Most likely, I will need to seal the area where the plastic ends, with the tape 1/2 on the plastic and 1/2 on the concrete block to create the seal.
I need to find a way to seal all these things off, more so for the smell than the moisture, though I want to handle both. I've heard Tyvek tape, gorilla tape, sheathing tape (other than Tyvek I guess) and foundation tape (although I haven't been able to find any at the big box store, but they didn't seem to know what I was asking for and it wasn't in the concrete section)
First what is the best way to seal this poly to:
A) itself, especially at seams on the floor
B) Concrete block, especially along walls.
Also, does anyone have any good ideas about sealing below a water heater, and around uneven areas where there is not much block to secure to?
Thanks for your help!
