can you place rock wool insulation around hot water radiator pipes
I had an energy audit recently and one thing the guy said was to insulate the header space between the joists in the basement. I started doing that tonight as i had some spare R14 rock wool insulation.
However one section of the joists has my hot water radiator pipes (2" diameter) running up around them. I wanted to know if it's ok to snuggly fit the insulation bats around these pipes. I believe the pipes would get to temperatures around 70oC
I worried there might be a fire risk as there is with chimneys.
thanks

It is fine to place rock wool in that area. Rock wool is non-combustible and like other types of mineral wool is also molded into shapes designed to insulate mechanical system piping.
