Hi,
Now with winter fast approaching, I'm revisited by an issue I noticed last year during our 1st winter in the house.
I noticed that the small crawl space in the attached garage which I believe goes over my family room/laundry room is not insulated. This makes my family room pretty cold in the winter and I have to overcompensate the heat in that room by increasing the thermostat.
I'm thinking of cutting some holes in the drywall in the garage and stuffing it with some R30 insulation.
Do you think this will help with the air drafts? Or would I be better hiring someone to spray foam in the small crawl space attic above the family room/laundry room and garage?
Thank you!

You say crawlspace - do you mean attic? I'm having trouble picturing the layout in my mind, some pictures might help.

Please see attached images to visualize it better...
I haven't cut any holes in the laundry/garage room but I'm guessing that there is just an empty roof cavity that is getting shared between my attached garage and my family room.
In the middle of winter, I pulled out one of the recessed lights in the family room and I could feel a constant air draft strong enough to put out my lighter each time.
Thank you!
