Seeking opinions on vapor barriers

I have a guy installing a new bathtub/shower for me (including the surround). I live in the Northeast, but the bathtub alcove does NOT include any exteriors walls. My guy is saying not to use any kind of vapor barrier on interior walls, and I'm getting conflicting info everywhere else. Some say no barrier needed, some say you should install one to prevent moisture from getting behind the wall and rotting out/expanding the studs. So, I thought I'd seek out some opinions here. Thoughts?

You do not use vapor barriers on interior walls. And you definitely do not use them behind shower surrounds. Listen to "your guy".
