pole barn insulation
have a 24ft 24ft pole barn that I am looking to insulate. they ran the 2x4s horizontally on 4x6s for nailing panels and siding. am thinking of putting 1 1/2 polystyrene foamboard in between the 2x4s..r valve around 5 to 6. have been thinking of studding it in and the rolled insulation and 1/2 piywood over that. I will be putting the poly insulation in my overhead door....just what would be a good idea to insulate...will not be spending a lot of time out there...with winter coming on...live in Mich so it will be cold in there.

Insulate it however you want. Most pole barns use a faced blanket insulation, which comes in a variety of widths and lengths, so that you don't have to add any more framing. If you have never heard of this just Google pole barn faced insulation blanket. It's less expensive than framing in and finishing the entire building.
If you aren't going to heat the building, the insulation isn't going to help a whole lot.

It would help to know a little more about how your barn was constructed. What are the exterior walls clad with?
My barn/shop isn't insulated except for my tool room where I also store paint and such. My wood stove does a decent job of heating the main section [24x26] of the bldg although I don't think I've ever worked out there if got below 20° IMO the main thing is to stop drafts. As X stated insulation doesn't do a lot if you don't intend to heat the space although ceiling insulation does help in the summer.

I am looking at a heat source....will not be wood burning....either electric or gas (bottle)...am leaning to electric because of mowers...trimmers and a snow blower stored in there...figure if it can keep the side I am working in that will be ok...
