Are there ways to install insulation on the exterior of an already-built house?

I own an older house with almost no insulation. It is wood sided. Are there any ways to put some kind of insulation on the outside? Spray foam? Rigid pieces of foam painted with stucco paint? I have absolutely no idea. Thanks for any advice.

ps the attic and crawlspace have been recently insulated, and a new roof.

There is, I've got a garage the was drywalled without insulation.

From the minimal conversations the two plausible fixes are blown in fiberglass or cellulose.

From what I can tell the dense pack cellulose ist probably the least intrusive but all require holes to be cut into the cavity either inside or out and material blown/pumped in!

Having insulation blown into stud cavities is fairly common on old uninsulated houses. Rigid foam sheets are only used under siding - like if you were to have vinyl siding installed.

Thanks so much for the advice. As it happens, I have had two insulation guys offer to do the blown-in insulation, only to discover that someone had tried that already; there is old sheet insulation inside the walls from when the house was built, and it is blocking any efforts to blow anything in there.

Is there anything at all that can be added on the outside of the walls? without taking off the siding first? can spray foam be sprayed onto the siding and then painted?

No way. That would look hideous.

If you were considering vinyl siding or entire house stuccoing..... you could put foam sheet goods outside. There is nothing you can add now to the outside of the house that isn't going to stand out like a sore thumb.
