My attic has new insulation and I'm wondering about insulating the return air duct. It's up there running through either real hot or real cold air making the HVAC work harder. So, should I just pile up some R-30 bats around and over the duct (it's square) or should I buy the expesive duct wrap with 1/10th the insulation value? My other thought was to glue 1" ridgid foam insulation to the ducts. My big worry is condensation in the summer rotting the ducts and the insulation if the moisture can't escape.

Have you posted this in the HVAC forum? It's really a question they could answer better.
