Is my new tree dead?

I had a 15 ft. tall (about 3 in. diameter trunk) Autumn Purple Ash transplanted into my front yard last September. The tree seemed to do just fine last fall, and I watered it per the nursery's instructions. We had a fairly average winter with slightly above average snowfall. And I gave it a good watering once a couple weeks ago when early spring was rather dry. The tree has plenty of leaf buds, but none have shown any sign of leafing out yet. All the other mature trees around here (Wisconsin) are well into leafing out. Does a newly transplanted tree take longer to leaf out than normal, or should I panic and call the nursery and tell them I think my tree died over the winter? Thanks....

Tim, No need for panic however I would call the Nursery and ask if what you have is normal. It may be part of transplant shock and will turn out okay. Doesn't hurt to ask though. Good luck.
