What plants to use around a above ground pool

We just got an above ground pool and I need some suggestions on what plants(periennals) would be good to put around the pool. I have medium size pea gravel up against the pool then a small grading slope away from it and need something to add around the pea gravel that can with stand bright sun most of the day. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

There is almost an endless array of plants, especially shrubs, that will thrive in the open sun. Some of my favorites are: azalea, otto leuken laurel, indian hawthorne, lorpetalum. I would recommend a trip to a nursery to look at the variations in shape, color, flowering, rate of growth.
