how can I create a smooth curved landscaping edge/contour?

I am putting mulch around my home and I wondering how to create the contour for the edging so it looks smooth.

How do you suggest I do this?

Thanks.

Its easy & fun.

Get a garden hose.

Lay it on the ground to make a layout that looks good.

Spray the grass with spray paint or put flour along the outline.

Ask your spouse if he/she likes it.

If he/she doesn't, give him/her the hose, flour and a can of pray paint in a different color.

Put in flexible edging where the preferred line goes.

Remove the sod inside the line.

Put down black poly.

Fill inside the line with mulch.

wow, the hose idea is pure genius! Thank you.

By the way, would it be unheard of to NOT use a flexible edging? I plan on using rock mulch but I will dig the ground for the outside edge of the mulch lower than the grass/lawn around it.

Edging is not absolutely necessary, but it gives you a relatively permanent, defined edge and keeps the grass/weeds separate from the much.
