wood chips or shreeded wood around above ground pool?
i have a 12 foot X 18 foot above ground swimming pool. i want to put wood chips around the pool and in the filter area. are there any drawbacks to doing this as far as bugs or anything else? or would colored mulch be beter? the chips would be just going over top of the ground.

If you are planning on doing woodchips, you may want to put some edging in to contain them, and give you a mowing edge. Also, depending on how close to the ladder/deck area they are, you may have wet feet tracking them into the pool. I also don't know how chlorinated water affects them ........

Any type of wood mulch will attract insects. A regular perimeter treatment of poolside and mulch with residual insecticide should keep most insects at bay. I personally favor shredded mulch for aesthetic reasons. You may also want to consider placing a decorative grass or perennials around base of pool to soften its appearance in the landscape. Using landscape cloth beneath mulch will keep weed at bay. Remove existing vegetation before beginning project. Edging bed with rigid material will tend to keep mulch contained and wet feet out of it.
