Question Hedge removal

Hi there...we're looknig to remove a waist high hedge that runs the length f our driveway so that we can widen it. Does anyone have any idea how we would do this? We know we would start with a chainsaw, but how do we get rid of the roots?

Thanks so much in advance!

if you are going to have a contractor do the add-on, let his crew remove the shrubs while they have equipment there on site. otherwise. if a tracter is not handy you can remove fairly large stumps with a chain and a 4x4.
renting a stump grinder is another option.

If you don't have access to a truck and chains, depending on the type of shrub and it's root system, you can also dig them out by hand with a shovel and the help of a large pry bar. I removed six shrubs this way last summer, took a friend and I an afternoon of digging and prying.

If you have or know anyone who has a truck and will let you borrow it, don't dig them up by hand.

Dig a trench on one side of the hedge about a foot deep

Do not cut the tops of the hedge, you will need the tops for leverage

Tie each shrub up into a clump, dig until loosened and pull out.

Good Luck
