Garden Bed Screening

I like to know what is the best screening to use for garden beds. Currently I have pine bark, which tend to be dug up by birds and that causes weeds to be transplanted. The purpose of the screening is to prevent weed, which are caused by birds digging on the pine bark.

I am thinking of getting a bigger size, course barks and may be the birds will not touch. I also noticed some commercial offices uses a colourd type of screening (barks), is this to scare away the birds?

Whats the best type of screening to prevent birds & also weeds?
Thanks

Hardwood mulch does not seem to be removed so easily by birds. You might try a deeper layer of the bark for a example. If the beds are small enough, you could install landscape fabric under the bark. This will help control sprouting.
