covering shrubs for winter?

is it okay to put burlap sacks over shrubs during the winter to keep them from getting killed by snow. if so, what type would you use and when would you put them on/off? also, is there anything else to keep in mind when doing it...

thanks.

What shrubs and why does the snow kill them? Here the snow does not kill the plants in my yard.

illacs (sp?). the snow weighs so heavy on them that

it destroys the shape. they don't seem to recover that well. this is a second home so i can't be there to get the snow off them.

i was told that putting burlap sacks would protect them from snow/frost and yet still let them breath/etc.

Burlap sacks will just provide a large area for snow to collect on and then weigh down on top of the shrub I would think..
