Planting King Palm Tree

Bought 2, 3-4 ft king plam trees, going to plant in the front yard. States spacing should be planted 15-20 ft. Is that just how much space they need and the bigger space they have the larger they will grow? What happens if I space each tree approx. 3 ft. away from each other? Just curious

Generally, the spacing is the mature width of the tree plus appropriate spacing at maturity. Too close and the trees will grow together, affecting the shape and stability of the tree. A tree needs sufficient space to grow and develop.
