How Much Sand Do I Need

I'm about to start paving a section of my garden which is a little under 35m2 (3.5m x 9.5m).

My question is, how much sharp sand should be used to bed beneath the slabs? I've been told by two different sources 1 ton and 4 tonnes. The latter of which sounds far too much.

What calculation is done to determine how much I need?

Many thanks in advance

M

The sand should only be used to level the stones. You need a gravel base...typically 8-12".

Most installation instructions reccommend a sand setting bed of about 1" to 1 1/2" (25 to 32 mm). This is over your compacted base.

Thanks Dick

How much does that equate to?

1"- 1.5" over an area of just under 35m2.

1 ton, 2 ton, 3 ton?

Thanks again.

@ about 100lb/ft3 you would need 1 1/2 to 2 1/4 ton of dry sand for 1" to 1 1/2" thick
