grass seed in pa.

How late in the year can I sow new grass seed in southeastern Pa.? Other than the normal grass seed is there another type of grass seed that I could buy for the colder months?

Hi Ernie,

Your local extension service is the best place to find out when is the best time to sow. I poked around and found that for SE Pennsylvania, Sept 1st to Oct 15th is the recommended time. If you are really close to the Deleware border I'd say to give it a go. It's going to be warm for a few days yet.

You might find this map handy.

If not, you can use this zip code zone finder to get your hardiness zone.

Not sure what 'regular' grass is, but you should find this helpful for selecting a type of grass.

Your local Cooperative Extension Agent can also provide you with recommendations for the best grass seed for your area and your growing conditions in your lawn.
