Clearing Brush/Woody Area

I will be trying to clear out a woody area. Currently it is infested with buckthorn trees various weeds I have been cutting a bunch down but there are a bunch of stumps left. How can I get rid of these?
I have thought about renting a rough terrain mower but not sure if that can handle 2-3 inch dia. stumps.
There are a lot.. 200 at least. Plus it is on a hill.

Anyone have any idea? These trees are out of control.

Larger saplings can be cut with a saw. A bush hog is great for keeping areas clear and preventing their becoming overgrown.

A brush cutter is what you need which is like a weed whacker with a saw blade instead of a string.
This will allow you to cut close to the ground.
