Question Pruning boxwoods

I have 4 small boxwood bushes in the front of my home and I'd like to trim them back just a bit to begin shaping them. I planted them 2 years ago and they're about 2 feet tall now and fairly full.

When is the best time to prune the bushes? In the early spring or should I wait until the new growth comes out and trim them in the fall?

Hi Tranch,

You can prune boxwood starting in late March as long as no hard freezes are forecast. In your zone I'd probably wait until mid to late April. You can continue to prune until July when hot weather sets in. Don't prune in fall as a warming trend and then an early freeze could damage any new flush of growth.
