Manual tamper vs. gas powered

Replacing a deteriorating wooden 2-3' high retaining wall with a block wall. The wall is between a raised garden and my lawn. The length is probably 50-60 feet.

Using a gas tamper to level the sand and base rock will require removing lawn and relocating sprinklers to accomodate the width of the tamper. My other concern is with the retaining wall removed the virbration from the gas tamper will cause the bed to collapse.

Can I get by with a manual tamper?

It seems unlikely that a gas tamper would cause sufficient vibration to collapse the bed. A manual tamper will work fine. You can take credit for your vigorous exercise when this is completed.
